1st Horse Show!!!!

February 28th, 2010

The countdown is almost over as Steve and horses leave for Tampa this Thursday. So far, the weather forcast looks good for the drive. It sure will be nice to leave the snow behind! Steve is taking HS She Be Bad for the park division, She’s Extra Charming for country pleasure, Heir To The Moon for the 5-gaited classes, and CH Broadway’s Mamma Mia! for the 3-gaited division. All of the horses and riders are looking good! I will try to update blog from there with results. Wish us good luck!

What Did You Do On Valentine’s Day?!

February 15th, 2010

Linda Park got married! Jason and Linda flew to Las Vegas and were joined by another couple for a Vegas wedding. Last I heard, it’s official! She also said the weather was great,(I’m sure it was better than Ohio!) and they had won some cash. Congrads Linda and Jason!

Steve and I went to Lexington to look at a horse for me. It was a successful trip, as we came home with a horse on the trailer. Her name is CH Broadway’s Mamma Mia. She’s been shown in the park and 3-gaited divisions. We were supposed to stay the night and go out to dinner but we heard the weather Monday was going to get bad so we got out while the getting was good!

Lesson Learned

January 25th, 2010

Anyone that has been to our Christmas party at Memory Lane knows that we have a blooper tape. It shows some funny horse related “incidents” that have occured over the years,(Steve and Margo win the award for best bloopers!). Well, it’s a good thing we don’t have video taping in the barn area, or I definately would have made 2010 tape!

I was turning Norma out,(16 years old and very pregnant) and didn’t think I needed a lead strap-WRONG!!  She got spooked, jerked away from me, and yes, I fell face down. She was quickly caught, and there I was with mud and snow all over me. Chris, Eric and Steve thought it was pretty funny! Actually, it was hilarious, and I learned never think being old and chubby,(Norma, not me…yet) will slow you down!

ASHAO Banquet

January 17th, 2010

Last night we attended the annual ASHAO banquet. This year it was held at The Blue Heron Golf Club. The food was excellent! We had a Chinese auction as well as a silent auction. Lots of awards were given out, too. The only “hitch” in the evening was the microphone wasn’t working (a problem easily fixed for next time).  We got to see Tom and Jeanette Blake. I haven’t seen Jeanette since she started college; she has certainly grown up!

New Orleans

January 11th, 2010

We had a great time in New Orleans at the UPHA convention!  The food, shopping, and entertainment was outstanding. Phil Price got the Tom Moore Hall Of Fame award, and Jenny Taylor got the Horseman Of The Year award! They were both very surprised! It is always nice to see a persons’ hardwork and dedication recognized.

Steve and I did some site seeing, and this city has a lot to offer. We definately would go again. Steve and Jenny bought voodoo dolls, so keep an eye on them! Oh yea, I even rode the mechanical bull and have the bruises to prove it!

Happy New Year

January 1st, 2010

Since my last post we have had Christmas and New Years!  It’s such a busy time of the year. We are going to the UPHA convention in New Orleans this week. Can’t wait!!

Congradulations to Sidney Carpenter on the purchase of Dollar For Dollar. Jimmy and Georgia Morrison will be his new trainers. We have heard Sidney is spoiling “Buck” with cinnamon  sprinkled apples and he loves it! Also congrats to Deb Rateri of Lexington , Kentucky on the purchase of The Bay Princess.  Good luck to Sidney and Deb!

After the convention, we have the ASHAO banquet which is always a good time. I am now the vice president of the ASHAO, and Leslie Reynolds is president.

Norma’s New BFF

December 6th, 2009

Norma and BeringerCH Caramac's Norma Rae and Beringer Red

We decided we better get Norma ready to be outside a little bit since she is getting very pregnant looking. We have been putting her out in a small lot next to where Berringer Red is enjoying his retirement. The first time she was out, all she wanted to do was eat, until he came over. There was a lot of noise between the 2 of them. Of course, Norma was acting like the aggresive one! After the intial greeting, they have become the best of friends. Norma winnies from her window to him and he talks back. As soon as she goes out, he comes trotting over, talking the whole time. I still ride her a little bit and she definately still remembers her show horse ways,(i just have to use a larger girth!).

Thanksgiving Already?!

November 22nd, 2009

You always know Thanksgiving is just around the corner when the American Royal/UPHA National Championship Show is over. Steve just returned and saw some great classes. Clark Clouse showed a 3 year old in the open park classes that was unbelievable. He won both classes, and was quite impressive. The Daily Lottery won the open 5-gaited championship after a 3 horse workout. Ava Gardner won the amateur 5-gaited championship after a 4 horse workout.  It sounds like it was a heck of a show!  Everyone have a safe and good holiday weekend!

Busy Weekend

November 9th, 2009

This past weekend was a busy and fun one. Lisa May was up to practice ride Heir To The Moon. She had 2 great rides on “Moonpie”, took a lesson on “Romeo” from Jenny, and rode Caramac’s Norma Rae a couple of rounds. I think she slept well that night! Jackie Hawkes rode her new horse Saturday and it went really well. Nichole, Kelley and Tracy all had good rides on thier horses as well. Linda Park even came out for a visit!

New Horse For Jackie!

November 4th, 2009

Jackie Hawkes is the proud new owner of a 4 year old mare named HS She Be Bad. She has been shown in the junior park pleasure division this year by Sena Bowling. She was most recently reserve at the Kentucky Fall Classic.  Jackie has been showing her gaited pleasure horse, Harlem’s Gifted Treasure for the last few years. He has been a wonderful confidence builder for Jackie and we will miss him, but we are also very excited for the 2010 season with her new horse!!
